On Friday November 8th, our school had the privilege of honoring nine local veterans in a heartfelt ceremony that brought together members of the Toll Gate community to express their gratitude for the veterans' sacrifices and service. Hosted by Mr. McNamara and the Social Studies department, the honorees included Jonni Goddard, Jason Tremblay, CS1 David F. Patterson, Jr., Sergeant First Class Nicholas Kelly, Sergeant John F. Richards Jr., John Ricci, Bruce Vittner, William Grimes, and Clara Rull.
The event began with a symbolic walk through the B3 corridors, where students lined the halls, clapping and cheering as the veterans made their way through. This powerful moment allowed students to show their respect and appreciation for these heroes up close.
Following the walk, the event moved outside to the field for a flag ceremony, readings, and "The Star-Spangled Banner." Each veteran was individually recognized with their biography read aloud, sharing their unique stories of service and commitment. The ceremony closed with a moving rendition of "Taps," as a tribute to the solemn dedication of each veteran.
After the ceremony, refreshments were served in the library providing students and staff members the chance to personally thank the veterans.
The ceremony was a reminder of the deep respect our school community holds for those who have served our country. It was a touching experience for all who attended, marking a memorable day for our veterans and our school.
